How to calculate CPM
CPM is the cost of 1,000 impressions. Know any two of cost, CPM and impressions, and you can work out the third.
CPM
Cost ÷ Impressions × 1,000
$5,000 ÷ 500,000 × 1,000 = $10.00
Cost
Impressions ÷ 1,000 × CPM
2,000,000 ÷ 1,000 × $4.00 = $8,000
Impressions
Cost ÷ CPM × 1,000
$3,000 ÷ $6.00 × 1,000 = 500,000

Pay per 1,000 views, not impressions
Ads on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and X sell impressions at a price set by an auction that moves with audience, format and season. An impression counts when an ad loads. On a clipping campaign you set a rate per 1,000 views instead: creators post clips of your content, and you pay for views on the clips you approve.
- Typical rate per 1,000 views on Content Rewards clipping campaigns
- $1 to $2
- Platform fee, charged only on work you approve. Verified brands pay 8%.
- Up to 10%
